BECOMING YOUR SPOUSE’S BIGGEST FAN
TEAM LASSITER | Dr. Terry + Vicki Lassiter
The word “fan” comes from the word “fanatic” which easily describes Terry’s and Vicki’s identity when it comes to Baylor football and basketball. Being a good fan in the sports world gives us insight into being our spouse’s biggest fan. Whether Baylor is a Big XII champ or suffering through rough seasons, loyal fans show up and scream loudly (and don’t sell their season tickets to the opposing team’s fans!). The Lassiter’s 40 years of marriage AND fandom has enabled them to draw some conclusions that can help all of us cheer on our spouses. Don’t miss this opening session as you learn how to become your spouse’s biggest fan.
BUILDING A FINANCIAL PLAYBOOK THAT HONORS GOD AND YOUR MARRIAGE
TEAM BROWN | Dr. Owen + Erin Brown
This session provides couples with Biblically based guidance on managing their finances together. Owen and Erin Brown will cover essential topics including building a strong financial foundation, enhancing financial transparency and dialogue between spouses, and developing short-term and long-term financial goals as a couple. Whether you’re a newlywed or a seasoned couple, this session aims to foster a deeper financial understanding and trust between spouses.
BUILDING A RESILIENT AND LASTING LOVE IN MARRIAGE
TEAM CORLEY | Dr. Don + Julie Corley
“Building a Resilient and Lasting Love in Marriage” will offer some practical suggestions to help get marriage off to a good start and keep it going for the long haul. Resiliency doesn’t happen overnight and is often a direct consequence of taking a proactive approach in how we handle the ups and downs of marriage. If you want to learn more about how to build connection and keep it going, join the Corley’s for this important session that will help your marriage go the distance!
NAVIGATING HEALTHY IN-LAW RELATIONSHIPS
TEAM HACKER | Preston + Bri Hacker; Randy + Kimberly Hacker
Whether you want to learn how to cultivate a healthy relationship with your in-laws, or you want advice and insight on how to become a great in-law, we invite you this valuable breakout session where you will hear from a son-in-law and daughter-in-law as well as a mother-in-law and father-in-law. These dynamic duos will share how they navigate communication, expectations, boundaries, and more to create a healthy family dynamic.
KEEP THE SPARK ALIVE: MAINTAINING HEALTHY SEXUAL INTIMACY IN MARRIAGE
TEAM BROWN | Austin + Elizabeth Brown
Join us for this session as we discuss the foundations of healthy intimacy and how to deepen your connection for better sex in marriage.
HOW TO LEAVE A LASTING LEGACY
TEAM MCCARVER | Bruce + Jean McCarver
In this session, Bruce and Jean will share how they are passing down their faith through the generations. This includes singing, dancing, and celebrating important milestones as a means to incorporating Biblical truths and prayer. You will walk away with many creative ideas that you will find fun and fulfilling and that you can incorporate into your own marriage and family as you journey through life.
CULTIVATING A STRONG MARRIAGE AND HEALTHY BLENDED FAMILY
TEAM WILLIAMS | Leon + Jo Williams
Becoming a blended family is difficult and takes work—a lot of work. There are many ways blended families present more challenges than first families, including taking on new roles that family members have never navigated before. Join Leon and Jo Williams as they share their story of becoming a blended family and then offer practical and helpful insights to help you face the complexities in your own blended family.
BALANCING WORK, MARRIAGE, AND FAMILY
TEAM GOCHIS | Rich + Cheryl Gochis
In the “Balancing Work, Marriage, and Family” workshop, participants will explore practical strategies for navigating the demands of professional life while nurturing their marriage and family relationships. Drawing from personal experiences, guided discussions, and Biblical insights, attendees will explore how to prioritize what matters most, strengthen communication, and cultivate balance. This session offers tools to develop balance between life’s responsibilities and the joys of family life.
GROWING TOGETHER THROUGH TRIALS
TEAM MORGAN | Keith + Annabeth Morgan
Everyone’s marriage experiences trials, which can bring you together or push you further apart. The Morgan’s have experienced a bit of both, but ultimately choose each day to let life bring them together—whatever may come. In this session, they will share their story of trials including addiction, infertility, loss, adoption, disappointment, financial stress, starting and ending businesses, and how God continues to teach them how to find deeper places in Him and in each other through it all. They continue to learn and work to be each other’s safest place and greatest advocate which makes doing life together much more enjoyable. This session will provide a place of support while offering practical tools to help you grow towards each other, while also learning how to connect with your spouse amid painful times. In the end, you will learn how to come out on the other side of trials with a deeper internal strength and capacity than you ever dreamed possible.
WINNING THE GAME WITH HEALTHY COMMUNICATION & CONFLICT RESOLUTION
TEAM WEBB; TEAM WOMMACK; TEAM BROWN | Danny + Nelma Webb; Chris + Susan Wommack; Taylor + Kelsey Brown
Healthy communication and conflict management is essential to win the game both on and off the field. Just like the quarterback must be clear as he calls the play, we must be clear when communicating with our spouse if we want a thriving marriage. Come hear from three different couples in three different seasons of life as they share key principles of healthy communication and conflict resolutions skills they practice every day.
Meet the Team
Dr. Owen and Erin Brown have been married for 16 years and share two boys, Harrison (9) and Reid (6). While not native Texans, they have called Waco home for more than 10 years. Owen is an accounting professor at Baylor University and Erin is a part-time accountant at Texas Farm Bureau. But more than likely you’ll find them chasing their boys from one ballfield or court to the next.

Taylor and Kelsey Brown met as high schoolers in the First Woodway youth group. They have been married over eight years and can’t imagine spending this much time with anyone else. They have three young children—Teddy, Kennedy, and Eleanor—who are full of energetic joy and keep their lives full in the best ways.

Austin (LMFT LPC) and Elizabeth (LMFT Associate under the supervision of Lynette Wilson, LMFT-S) Brown have been married 18 years, and are raising three kids. Both completed their master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and continue to work in this field. Austin is a counselor at McLennan Community College and works with clients in private practice. Elizabeth sees couples and individuals in private practice and is working toward completing her Doctorate in Ministry from Abilene Christian University.

Dr. Don and Julie Corley met at Baylor University on a blind date, dated for three years, and have been married for 46 years. They moved back to Waco 40 years ago and raised their daughter, Ashley, and son, Chris, here. Ashley, her husband, Michael live in San Antonio with their two children. Chris and his wife, Ashley, live in Katy with their two children. Julie recently retired from Baylor Law School and Don is a psychologist at Waco Psychological Associates.

Rich and Cheryl have been married for over 30 years and are proud parents of three adult children: Drew, Jacob, and Hannah. They both work at Baylor University where Rich serves as the Physical Therapist and Cheryl works in HR. With a heart for teaching and serving, they lead an adult life group where they facilitate Bible study with practical applications for family and faith.

Preston and Bri Hacker have been married for five years and are blessed with two wonderful boys, Bennett (two years old) and Hudson (four months). As avid Baylor fans, the University will always hold a special place in their hearts as they met, got engaged, and married all on campus.

Randy and Kimberly Hacker have been married for 32 years and have lived in Waco for the last 10 years. They feel blessed to have two sons, two daughters-in-law, and two precious grandsons. Randy teaches marketing at Baylor University and Kimberly helps take care of their grandsons.

For 26 of the 40 years Dr. Terry and Vicki Lassiter have been married, they had the privilege of serving as missionaries in four different countries. Terry is a dentist and was able to use human needs ministries to start churches and share about Jesus. About 10 years ago, God moved them back to the U.S. and of all places, Waco, Texas! Terry now owns the Alpha Omega Dental Clinic and still uses dentistry to share about Jesus. Vicki is involved in various ministries and especially loves one-on-one time with younger women who love Jesus, too.

Bruce and Jean have been married for 50 years. They have four grown children and 12 grandchildren. Bruce has a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. They have both served the Lord all 50 years of their marriage. Now in retirement, Bruce supply preaches for churches throughout Texas. They spend a great deal of their time following their grandchildren in sports and musical performances. Other past times include gardening, walking, ping pong, and swimming.

Keith and Annabeth Morgan’s backgrounds couldn’t be more different and yet they are so thankful for how God brought them together. They have been married for 16 years and have three children, ages 21, 15, and 13. Annabeth is a marriage and family therapist, while Keith recently sold a business and is working toward getting his nursing license back from 20 years ago and will then return to the nursing field. Currently, the Morgan’s spend most of their time taxiing their daughters to their activities, caring for their elderly grandparents who recently moved into their home, trying to keep up with their son who is in college, and pausing to take walks or hikes together.

Danny and Nelma Webb have been married for 52 years. They both accepted Christ when they were nine years old. Nelma retired as Minister to Preschool at First Woodway after serving for 22 years. Danny owned a software company for 26 years and is now retired; he currently serves as a deacon at First Woodway. They have three married sons, Jeremy (Robin), Tim (Chelsea), and Cory (Carly) and nine grandchildren.

Leon and Jo have been a blended family since 1994 and together they have four children, eight grandchildren, and two great grands. They moved to the Waco area in 2018 and First Woodway has been their church home almost from day one. They serve as First Woodway’s DivorceCare program leaders and volunteer in many other areas including God’s Tool Box, Women’s Ministry, GoodTimers, Missions, and other areas as needed. They enjoy family, friends, food, and traveling.

Chris and Susan Wommack have been married since 1988 (you do the math!), and they somehow managed to raise their two kids to adulthood. Their daughter, Alex, works for National Ballet of Canada in Toronto, Canada. Their son, Chase, serves as Minister to High School Students at First Woodway. Chase and his wife, Kate, are the parents of Baker—currently the favorite grandchild. During the day, Susan works for Mentoring Alliance and Chris occupies his time writing and mentoring students.
