Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.
– James 4:8 –

Christmas is a favorite season for many of us – parties and gatherings, laughter with family and friends, and extra time off from work. In addition to all these good things, our hope is that you will especially take time this season for the best thing… drawing near to Christ and experiencing His presence.

Christmas Missions Offering
As a church, First Woodway has strongly supported missions projects through giving, including those promoted by the Southern Baptist Convention. This year we are combining these giving opportunities into one offering – the Christmas Missions Offering. Your designated gift to this offering will be divided among these four groups:
* 50% to Lottie Moon – benefits international missions
* 20% to Annie Armstrong – benefits North American missions
* 20% to Mary Hill Davis – benefits state missions
* 10% to First Woodway Missions – benefits local and international missions

Over the month of December, we ask that you remember the Christmas Missions Offering as you designate your gifts. Donations can be mailed to 101 Ritchie Rd, Waco TX 76712 or you can Give Online.

December 24
Christmas Eve Worship Services
We will gather together as a church family on Christmas Eve for our annual celebration of the birth of Jesus. Come share in the Christmas spirit with carols and hymns. Services are at 3:30 and 5:00 pm. We will again have a story time for the little ones (so bring them in their jammies!) with Barbra Smith!

We will be live-streaming both services on our website: bit.ly/FW-thespot

December 26 + January 2
Holiday Worship Schedule

Worship services will be held at 10:00 am, and Life Groups, Youth and Children will not meet. Childcare will be provided for babies – twos during the service.

Christmas Activity for Families

Christmas Coffee House | Nov 29 – Dec 16 | The Venue
During the month of December, First Woodway Missions will be offering a cozy little coffee house as a local outreach event. It will be open through December 16, from 6:30-10:00 am in The Venue foyer, Monday – Thursday of each week. The “Peace on Earth” Christmas Coffeehouse will be a warm gathering place for the community and our church family to enjoy coffee, tea, and breakfast items. This quiet location will be the perfect spot to meet friends, pray with someone, take a break from the holiday chaos, and connect with others in our church family and those looking for a church home. It will be free of charge; however, donations are accepted, which will then provide Christmas meals to our food pantry families. We hope to see you there!

Women’s Christmas Dinner | Dec 2 | Worship Center
It’s time to Deck the Halls because it is, in fact, the season to be jolly… and we’ll be doing just that for our Women’s Christmas Dinner! Not only is this a time to come together for a meal to share stories, traditions, and laughter, but we will also be decorating the Twelve Trees for the following Sunday worship service. So grab your friends, Life Group ladies, mothers, and daughters for this quintessential Christmas evening on December 2 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm in the Worship Center. Claim your spot and sign up HERE!

Twelve Trees Christmas Worship | Dec 5 | Worship Center | 9:30 + 11:00 am
Celebrate the birth of Jesus this holiday season by joining us for one of our favorite events of the year. The First Woodway Worship Choir and Orchestra will lead in a Christmas Worship program titled “Emmanuel, God With Us” during both morning services (9:30 am and 11:00 am), and Dr. Sands will provide a devotional. Children’s Ministry will still meet both hours, but we encourage you to take your child(ren) to one of the Christmas Worship services. This is a meaningful and family-friendly time of worship and giving!

During Christmas Worship there is a time for our church family to bring forward gifts and place them under one of twelve trees lining the front of the Worship Center. Each tree represents a local ministry that serves our community. If you would like to bring a gift for one of the ministries, each has provided us with a “wish list” of the items they most need. To make it easy while you are out shopping, you can access this list under the “What’s Happening” tab on the First Woodway app!

Young Adult Singles Christmas Party | Dec 5 | The Venue | 5:00 pm
Hey 20s-30s young single adults – come celebrate Christmas with our YA life groups on Sunday, December 5 from 5:00 – 6:30 pm in The Venue! Come eat, play games and be sure to wear your favorite festive (or ugliest) Christmas sweater. We will have the fire pit going, plenty of hot chocolate and marshmallows, and some great food! Even if you are not part of a Life Group, we invite you to join us for some Christmas fun! No need to rsvp. Contact Carrie at cburrows@firstwoodway.org for more information.

Neighborhood Care-oling | Dec 8
“The best way to spread Christmas cheer, is singing loud for all to hear!”

This outreach effort is a great chance to provide encouragement to someone you know that may be going through a difficult time, or just for some of your friends and neighbors who may not have a church home. We will be singing carols, providing a gift basket and praying with each family we meet. We will have a quick dinner at 5:00 pm in the Worship Center foyer, prayer at 5:30 pm, and then head out in teams for this awesome way to connect and care for our community. Contact René Maciel for details (rmaciel@firstwoodway.org).

Kingdom Kids Holiday Hoopla | Dec 7
First Woodway’s 5th and 6th graders are invited to our first ever Holiday Hoopla. We will eat dinner, play games, have a gift exchange ($10 max; girls buy for girls, and boys buy for boys), and fellowship with one another. Reservations are required and will close on December 7, or when all spots are filled. Register HERE.

Woodway’s Winter Wonderland | Dec 12
Put on your mittens and ring those sleigh bells for Woodway’s Winter Wonderland for all ages! Come celebrate the holiday season with us! Join us in the Circle Drive for an evening of fun games, inflatables, food trucks, a photobooth, hayride, our Christmas Coffeehouse, s’mores, live music, and more! You won’t want to miss out on this special evening. The event is free (but bring a card or cash for food trucks). Please pre-register HERE so we know how many to expect (but come either way)! Merry Christmas!

GoodTimers- Senior Adult Christmas Banquet | Dec 14 | Worship Center
Tickets are on sale now for “A First Woodway Country Christmas” for $12 per person. The banquet will feature Holly Tucker and her band sharing a blend of country and Christmas music for your enjoyment, and a delicious catered meal. You won’t want to miss this incredible evening. The event begins at 6:00 pm in the Worship Center. Purchase your tickets from Holly Tucker or Roy Marshall in the church office!

Middle School + High School Holiday Hayrides | Dec 15
Once again, it is that time of year to do as the wise men did for Christmas and take a trip through the countryside. But we get to ride on a trailer full of hay to a country home for a bonfire to honor the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This wonderful Christmas tradition will take place on Wednesday, December 15th. We will meet in the parking lot of New Day Fellowship (1861 Church Rd, McGregor, TX 76657). Middle School will meet at 6:00 pm and return at 7:45 pm. High School will meet at 8:00pm and return at 9:45 pm. We will begin the night with a lovely ride under the stars and will end up at an incredibly warm and cozy bonfire with a super time of worship and scripture reading that you do not want to miss. Also, rumor has it there will be hot chocolate and hot cider. Be sure to dress warm because it is going to feel like winter this year. Maybe. Hopefully. Anyway, it’s going to be an incredible night to get you in the Christmas spirit and reflect back on the true reason we celebrate this time of year. Don’t miss it!

Join us on Sunday mornings! There’s a place for you here!
