“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made, your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” – Psalm 139:13-14

Welcome! Helping Hands provides ministry for persons with disabilities (babies through adulthood) and their families. It is our desire that people affected by disabilities and their families come to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Just as God showed His great love and compassion, we want to follow our Lord’s example in reaching out to people who have disabilities.

  • Our building meets the Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Act which requires handicapped parking, ramps, doorways, and restrooms.
  • Our children’s playground is ADA approved.
  • If needed, designated parking is available near the entrance to the building, marked as “Moms with Babies.”

  • To provide training for volunteers to assist in all facets of the program
  • To develop a support system for parents of special needs children
  • The Children’s Suite is in room 126 and serves our children with special needs through 6th grade.
  • The teen class is located in room A-121, and the adult class meets in 114.
  • The Adult Helping Hands class will be meeting at 8:15 and 9:30 am, and the Children’s Suite and Teen rooms will be open at 9:30 and 11:00 am.

Serve with Helping Hands as a Buddy or Teacher
First Woodway’s special needs ministry, Helping Hands, is looking for individuals or couples to join us in a Helping Hands classroom, or be a “Buddy” for a child as they attend their Woodway Kids Class. Current needs include:

  • A couple (or male and female team) to serve as a helper for a girl in the Helping Hands Teen Room
  • A male or female to serve as a Buddy for a second grader
  • An individual or couple to teach an 11:00 am adult special needs class using Lifeway curriculum

Our goal is to tailor a schedule that allows you to be plugged in on Sunday mornings in your own Life Group and worship services, while also serving in Helping Hands. Positions can be one or both hours or scheduled to serve every other week. If you’d like to know more, contact Alexis Gurley or Janice Stewart. We are happy to fill in the details to allow you to determine if this ministry is a fit for you.

First Woodway has a dedicated Special Needs Suite, designed for our preschool through teen classes. Special needs classrooms are available on Sunday mornings for children during the worship services.  Activities include music, story, play time, and snacks.  Check-in is at the Special Needs Suite, room 126. A special needs Bible study class for adults meets Sunday mornings in Room 114.  Inclusion (with a buddy) is available by arrangement. Evening care is by arrangement. This includes care in the suite or inclusion.

The Parent Support activities meet at various times throughout the year for instruction, encouragement, and fellowship.
