8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” – Ephesians 2:8-10

The Christmas season is upon us which also means the giving and receiving of gifts. I don’t know about you, but I am not the greatest gift giver. To be even more honest, the only people I typically think to get gifts for are those I’m expecting a gift from. God, on the other hand, doesn’t work this way. He doesn’t look around to see if we are doing things for Him before He buys us a gift. He graciously pursues you with gift in hand. For long before you even thought of giving anything to Him, He lovingly and sacrificially bought His gift for you.

This gift you and I have received is not only eternal life, but we have become the workmanship of God. What does that mean? We are God’s masterpiece being shaped and created by the work of His hands. He doesn’t just save us and then let us go toil about. He saves us and then goes to work in and through our life.

Like anytime you receive a gift, especially one of great value, the proper response is to thank the giver and to take advantage of all the gift has to offer. The same can be said about this gift God has given you. You have been saved and are now God’s work of art.  Your purpose is to be who He created you to be and to do all that He has called you to do. Don’t let your games be all in vain, but go into them with the mindset of one who has been given a gift.

  • Reflect on God’s gift of life He has given you.
  • Thank God for all He has done for you.
  • Ask God to open your eyes to the opportunities to glorify Him.
