Go South to the Road
The idea “Go South to the Road” comes from the passage Acts 8:26-40. “Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, ‘Go south to the road-the desert road-that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” Philip was compelled to go south to the road and there he met an Ethiopian Eunuch reading from the book of Isaiah. Philip was able to explain to the man what the Scripture meant as well as about good news about Jesus. Later that day Philip baptized him. God has also called us to go south… and listen to the Spirit’s call and direction. He leads us to different places, people, neighborhoods, homes, and settings to share Christ. At First Woodway, we are ready to go wherever God sends us. Whether it be all of the sudden or a well planned effort, we will join together to Go South to the Road.
Grab some friends and find a place to serve and engage the community together.

The Mission of First Baptist Woodway’s Kingdom Kids Ministry is to share God’s word so that children have the greatest opportunity to know, love and serve God and to equip parents as they disciple and raise their children in Christ.
Thanks for your interest in serving in the Kingdom Kids Ministry at First Baptist Woodway! Your involvement matters because your service makes a difference in the lives of children. We serve for His glory – not our own – and we serve because Jesus Himself came not to be served, but to serve (Matt. 20:28).
As Disciples who seek to follow in the way of Jesus Christ, we need to do as Jesus did to nourish and strengthen our relationship with God. We were created to serve God by caring for His children and acting as good stewards of His creation. No matter what your God-given gifts are, First Woodway can put them to His use. Whether you serve as a teacher, helper, greeter or an extra pair of hands, Christians with a spirit for service are needed for countless volunteer opportunities in our Kingdom Kids Ministry. Our belief is that as people serve, the impact of that service will change lives… for those serving, for the people they serve, and even for those who see them giving their time to help someone else.
As you read through the various volunteer opportunities contained here, please pray about where God would have you serve and then contact Kingdom Kids!

InnerCity Ministry is an opportunity to invest in the lives of local kids in Waco. Every Thursday, students from FWCM play with the children of the Villages Apartment complex on Bosque and 6th Street. After playing soccer, chalking sidewalk, and what seems to be hours of swinging, students share a gospel-centric story directly from scripture and finish the day with a snack. ICM meets at 4:00 pm. on Thursdays in the Ferrell Center Parking lot for carpool and a caravan and ends around 5:45 pm.
College Childcare Night
Once a month the College Ministry operates First Woodway’s weekly Friday Night Childcare service. From 6 pm until 10 pm, college students join the children in board games, playing in the gym, offer a snack, and finish the night with a movie. This service allows adult members of the church to spend a much needed night out together. All donations go directly to FWCM’s mission fund.
Disciple College Students
Students are paired in groups of 2-3 for weekly discipleship centered around Scripture, confession, and prayer. We are always looking for men and women to help disciple College Students in this setting, something we call Gospel Groups.
Hosting College Missional Communities
Student-led, mid-week gatherings of students (8-20) meet weekly Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday nights. We need families within 15 miles of Baylor to open their homes, adopt, and host these groups every year.
In the book of Acts, Joseph of Cypress was recognized by the Apostles as such a source of encouragement that they named him Barnabas, son of encouragement. The Barnabas ministry exists simply because there is a need in every ministry for encouragement, and we want to nourish encouragement in our leadership and across our ministry.

The Choir sets the pace for our church family as they lead out in worship each week. We are looking for everyone who has a heart for worship to join us. Rehearsals take place each Wednesday night from 7:00 until 8:15 pm.
We are looking for experienced players who want to use their gifts to worship the Lord through the First Woodway Orchestra. The orchestra plays 8-10 times per semester, averaging every other Sunday. Orchestra members rehearse at 8:00 am on the Sunday mornings they play. Then they play as part of the 9:00 am and the 10:30 am worship services. The orchestra also plays for special events throughout the year, including Christmas, Easter, and special worship events.
The worship band is a rotating, auditioned group consisting of keyboard (synth), electric and acoustic guitars, bass, drums, and auxiliary percussion (shaker, cajon, conga drums, sus cymbal, chimes, etc…). They are the foundation of all we do in the worship ministry. The worship band currently rehearses Wednesday nights at 8:30 pm. They also meet each Sunday at 7:45 am to set up and rehearse for the two morning services at 9:00 am and 10:30 am.
The Praise Team is an auditioned group that rotates in helping to lead worship on Sunday mornings. The Praise Team currently rehearses Wednesday nights at 8:30 pm, and is committed to being part of the choir as well. They also meet each Sunday morning at 8:00 am to rehearse for two morning services at 9:00 am and 10:30 am.

Welcome Team Contact Tracy Wallace for more information.
The task of hosting visitors and members well is an incredibly important one, and we need help in order to do this with excellence! We are looking for young, smiling faces to add to our great team of volunteers to help serve in this vital ministry! Here’s where we need your help:
Golf Cart Team
We have a big parking lot and lots of traffic in it, so we would love to offer safe and convenient rides to our church family.
Red Wagon Team
Parents of young kids often have their hands full with diaper bags as they try to wrangle their little ones through the parking lot into the church, and we want to help. This team will go out into the designated lot for “families with small children” and offer rides for the kids into the building or just offer to take in bags so that the parents have an easier walk into the church!
Friendly faces to be out on the sidewalks to help point people in the right direction.
Kingdom Kids Greeters
Once families get into the building, we want to make sure that they feel welcomed and taken care of…that’s what Kingdom Kids Greeters are all about! We help our guests get checked in on our system and then help them find classrooms for their little ones.
These are our people standing in strategic locations to make sure that everyone who walks into our building is greeted with a smile, a handshake, and a statement that says no matter who you are, how your morning has gone, or what you did on Saturday night, we are so glad you are here!
Welcome Desk – Main Service (9:00 and 10:30 am) and The Venue Service (10:30 am)
This team’s main purpose is to be Information Central! If you have a question about which class would be a good fit for you, where do the kids go for their classes, what time are the services, or any number of other questions…this is the team you go to!
Guides – Main Service (9:00 and 10:30 am) and The Venue Service (10:30 am)
This group is the one who walks our guests to the locations that the Welcome Desk points them to…in other words, this group helps to make sure we don’t have anyone wandering the halls looking for where they are supposed to be!
Would you be interested in helping a new member of First Woodway get assimilated into our faith family? First Friends is a simple way to invest in our newest members and help them to connect to our church. We invite you to eat dinner with them at New Member Workshop and then follow up with them regularly for a few months afterward. Simple ministry, but vital to the life of our newest members.
