“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.” – 1 John 4:18
I imagine many of you right now have some nerves for your game or match. Some of you are anxious about who you are playing in front of and what is on the line. While others of you are anxious about not playing at all. More than those fears, all of us are going to war with the fear of failure.
The world tells us to combat fear with belief and confidence in ourselves which leads to covering our fear with pride, but covering the problem doesn’t solve it. Eventually, the insecurities and brokenness will make their way out into the light. For me this usually happened after failure and defeat.
Thankfully, the Bible gives us a solution to our fear and that is living in God’s perfect love. When we identify and fill ourselves with the love of God we are able to play without fear because the outcomes do not affect our identity. His love for you will not be affected by your play today. His love and delight in you is never-ending and never-changing. Therefore, do not combat your fear with pride, but rather allow God to combat your fear with His love.
- Meditate on God’s love for you then pray and thank Him for His love.
- Confess your pride and fear to Him.
- Pray that He would replace your fear with His love.
