As you can tell from the diagram above, I think about group health in four categories: content, fellowship, care, and organization. These different categories lead to four important questions:
- Content – Are the Sunday morning announcements, prayer requests, and teaching engaging?
- Fellowship – Are the people in your class forming deep relationships?
- Care – Does your group notice when people are gone and show up for important life moments?
- Organization – Are you organized enough to facilitate fellowship and care well?
These are important questions for any group to answer because they address the various aspects of group life. Often groups will be strong in one or two area but weak in others. Asking these questions allows group leadership to identify strengths and shore up the weaker areas.
When it comes down to it I’d bet that a group that is strong in content, fellowship, care, and organization is a strong group overall!
